This is Part Two (see <a href=\"https:\/\/desertwind.us\/blog\/2011\/02\/water-fun-for-the-littles\/\">Part One<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Oh Groundhog Day Tree, Oh Groundhog Day Tree\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/desertwind.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/DWIce31.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"background-image: none; margin: 0px 0px 0px 12px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"DWIce3\" src=\"https:\/\/desertwind.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/DWIce3_thumb1.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"DWIce3\" width=\"632\" height=\"484\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We borrowed the <a href=\"http:\/\/babyccinokids.com\/2010\/12\/14\/outdoor-ice-baubles\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ice Bauble idea<\/a> from the Babyccino Kids site.<\/p>\n<p>It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s entirely possible that I find this project so exciting for the simple reason that it hasn&#8217;t been cold enough to do this project until yesterday. It probably won\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t get this cold again for another 6 years. Maybe longer, because I think we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve hit some sort of record low in the borderlands. \u00c2\u00a0I won&#8217;t apologize to those of you who deal with real winters &#8211; try making a snowman out of 1\/4&#8243; snow accumulation before you judge.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Materials<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Food coloring<\/li>\n<li>Water<\/li>\n<li>Mini muffin cups, tins, plastic or flexible containers*<\/li>\n<li>String\/yarn<\/li>\n<li>Decorations (leaves, rocks)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>*I would avoid glass containers, since you may need to dip the container in warm water to release your Ice Bauble.\u00c2\u00a0 If you dip frozen glass, you may end up with Insta-Thermal Shock Lesson.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Procedure<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>We premixed colors in plastic cups because we can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t get to the fallen leaves. You can use plain water, though, especially if you want to use leaves or rocks.<\/li>\n<li>Partially fill muffin cups and set outside to freeze<\/li>\n<li>Place a looped string on the now frozen bobble, and finish filling with a second color. Set outside to freeze.<\/li>\n<li>Decorate tree, fence, or other <em>immobile<\/em> object of your choice.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/desertwind.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/20110202_2733.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"background-image: none; margin: 0px 20px 0px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: left; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"20110202_273\" src=\"https:\/\/desertwind.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/20110202_273_thumb3.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"20110202_273\" width=\"154\" height=\"213\" align=\"left\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>My son\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s favorite lesson? Mixing all three primary colors results in the color \u00e2\u20ac\u0153root beer\u00e2\u20ac\u009d .<\/p>\n<p>You can also use this time to talk about energy loss\/transfer, and phase changes.
